April 2 will always remain an important date in Ex-Lewa in Kenya. After many years’ lack of quality care, advisory and health promoting initiatives, Gundua Foundation has now opened a fully equipped Health Centre.
The first day, we had the privilege to receive as many as 49 patients suffering from all kinds of diseases from diabetes to burns. People of all ages came for care and with our top-modern laboratory and our very competent employees we could really make a difference.
We are actively working to reduce the use of antibiotics and especially the broad-spectrum variants. On the whole, we would like to think that we, through well-planned information and education around better nutrition, better hygiene and the use of the right medicine on a needs basis, will make a considerable difference for peoples’ well-being.
During these days we have two extra Swedish nurses on site to undertake mass-vaccinations in the surrounding villages. And then, ApotekHjärtat, one of our major donors, will arrive with two pharmacists who will make sure all routines are in place in our pharmacy.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to increased life expectancy and higher standard of living for all of Ex-Lewa’s 10.000 inhabitants!
